Healthy Fried Apples – Only 3 Ingredients! {Vegan, Gluten-free}

There’s something incredibly warm and comforting about cinnamony cooked apples. These ones are cooked up without sugar or butter and are easy as pie… But much, much easier than pie.

And since they are as light as a feather you can eat them for breakfast on oatmeal.. or in a bowl with ice cream.. or with your fingers out of the pan.

Fried apple recipes, in general, are only approximations because different apples have different cooking properties. So keep an eye on the apples while they cook, add more juice if necessary, and cook a few minutes shorter or longer according to how soft you like em’

Healthy Fried Apples - Only 3 Ingredients! {Vegan, Gluten-Free}

Serves 2

These golden apple beauties are cooked up without sugar or butter and are easy as pie... But much, much easier than pie.

Ingredients

5 medium cooking Apples*

1 1/2 cups Pure Apple Juice**

1/4 teaspoon Apple Pie Spice (optional)

pinch of Salt (optional)

sprinkling of Fresh Nutmeg

Instructions

Peel, core, and slice apples.

Add apples and juice to a pan over high heat and bring to a boil while covered.

Once boiling, reduce heat to medium-high and simmer, with the lid half on, for 20 minutes. Stir occasionally. Add the spices halfway through cooking time.

Cook time depends on the type of apple you use and how soft you prefer them. Add additional 1/4 - 1/2 cup juice if they get dry.

Notes

*There are many types of cooking apples that work well here. I like Gala, Fuji, and Jonagold's. My grandma exclusively uses Ida Reds for baking. Different apples will yield different textures when cooked.

**Use 100% apple juice for this, the cocktail variety has tons of added sugars and additives. You may need an additional 1/4 - 1/2 cup iff the apples get dry during cooking.
